Project Overview

The Yangpu District N090602 Unit L4-02 Land Parcel Project is a large-scale urban residential development located in Dinghai Road Subdistrict, Yangpu District, Shanghai. The project covers a total site area of approximately 21,150.46 m² with a total gross floor area of about 87,295 m², including two basement levels (partially one level) and eight above-ground residential buildings. The above-ground structures adopt a prefabricated reinforced concrete frame system, while the basement utilizes a cast-in-place concrete frame. With building heights reaching up to 54.75 m and maximum floors of 17 stories, the project represents a high-density, high-complexity construction environment requiring precise structural control, fast cycle times, and consistent concrete quality. The project achieved China Green Building Two-Star certification, reflecting strong sustainability and efficiency requirements throughout construction.

Aluminum Formwork Application

Aluminum formwork was selected as the primary formwork system for this project due to its high dimensional accuracy, structural rigidity, and suitability for repetitive residential layouts. Across multiple buildings with varying floor counts and heights, the aluminum formwork system ensured consistent wall, slab, beam, and core construction while maintaining tight tolerances required by prefabricated structural interfaces. Compared with traditional timber or steel formwork, the aluminum system significantly reduced on-site labor intensity, accelerated floor-to-floor construction cycles, and improved surface finish quality, minimizing secondary plastering work. The system performed reliably under complex excavation conditions, including deep foundation pits up to 12.44 m, and integrated seamlessly with SMW piles, bored piles, and braced retaining structures used in the basement works.

Results and Value Delivered

By deploying aluminum formwork, the project contractor achieved faster structural turnover, improved site safety, and enhanced overall construction efficiency across all eight buildings. High reuse cycles reduced material waste and supported the project’s green building objectives, while standardized modular panels enabled precise execution across different building heights and layouts. The success of the Yangpu N090602 L4-02 project demonstrates how aluminum formwork is the optimal solution for large-scale, high-rise residential developments in dense urban environments—delivering superior quality, predictable schedules, and long-term cost efficiency. This case stands as a proven reference for aluminum formwork application in modern prefabricated concrete construction in Shanghai and other major cities.
